It may not generally be seen as the best game in the universe of gambling, but keno has tons of fanatical fans. And it should! It’s a consistently entertaining lotto-like game that’s easy to pickup, readily available in loads of alternate styles, and one that will pay out millions for players who master its limitless subtle nuances. But let’s begin with the basic rules for now.

When defining keno to amateurs, some gaming masters compare it to the lottery. This is at least in part correct, in that both games are essentially numerical. Yet to carry that comparison too far might be to detract from the many unique traits that make keno so interesting. Not like bingo, keno users have the freedom to pick the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the user is granted an additional degree of personal responsibility by being able to determine as many (or as few) numbers as he or she desires. And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your handpicked numbers with a standardball point pen like you had when you were in third grade.

After you’ve picked your numbers, take the card back to the nice person at the keno booth. The nice person will record your numbers and then give you a receipt. Do not lose this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your pretty face and wants help out, without a winning slip in hand, you will win exactly $.00 for your time spent.

OK, so there you have strategy #1: always make sure to keep your keno ticket. Let’s go on to something a little bit more useful, yes?

After you’ve marked your numbers, get into a comfortable keno booth and observe the action take place on the video monitor. That is where the winning numbers show up for us. If you have winners, mark your card accordingly. Be sure not to dilly dally, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You are required to get back to the keno stand to get your winnings, and then a new keno game will surely start up within a few minutes.

Strategy number two: always make it back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you do not trust yourself to make that 5 minute margin each time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your picked numbers on anywhere from two to twenty cards. When the maximum number of games (the same as the amount of tickets) is completed, you should then get off your numb rump and go retrieve your winnings.

Another choice is recognized as a "stray and play" keno slip, which usually lets you make number choices for 30 rounds or more. Golly, you can take vacation to France and not have to fret about getting back in time to collect your numbers. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

And now you are aware of a number of necessary methods for winning keno. If you are a good keno player, they may appear to be stupidly obvious. However, it will not hurt to brush up on the basics, and if you are a newbie gambler, every tiny bit of advice will help make your keno playing more exciting.
