It won’t generally be deemed the best game in the world of betting, but keno has millions of passionate players. And so it should! It’s a routinely exciting lottery-ish game that’s a breeze to master, abundantly available in several alternate styles, and one that might yield mega-dollars for gamblers who master its endless subtle rules. But let’s start with the beginner’s rules here.

When explaining keno to amateurs, some gambling connoisseurs compare it to bingo. This is at least in part apt, in that each game is generally numerical. However, to take that comparison too far will be to undervalue the good many unique aspect that make keno so exciting. Not like bingo, keno players have the power to select the numbers for each card.

Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the user is furnished with an increased level of personal responsibility by being able to pick as numerous (or as few) numbers as he needs. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your picked numbers with a normalball point pen like you used when you were in third grade.

Now that you have picked your numbers, carry the card back to the clerk at the keno booth. The person will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Make sure no to misplace this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your pretty face and wants help out, without a winning ticket with you, you will collect exactly $.00 for your winning card.

And there you have strategy #1: always make sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s move on to something a little bit more complex, shall we?

Now that you’ve picked out your numbers, get into a nice keno booth and watch the action happen on the video monitor. This is where the winning numbers appear in lights. If you checked winners, mark your card accordingly. Sake care not to drag your feet, or sit there congratulating yourself for too great a length of time. You must get back to the keno booth to collect your winnings, and then a new round of keno will almost certainly get going within five minutes.

Strategy number two: always get back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to beat that five-minute margin each time, you always retain the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your selected numbers on anywhere from 2 to 20 tickets. When the maximum number of games (the same as the amount of tickets) is played out, you are then able to get off your lazy butt and go redeem your winnings.

Yet another option is referred to as a "stray and play" keno slip, which generally allows you make number picks for thirty keno games or more. Heck, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after you purchase it!

And now you have learned a couple needed strategies for winning keno. If you are a skillful gambler, they may appear to be quite obvious. Still, it will never hurt to brush up on the basic tactics, and if you are a newbie player, every little bit of information will help make your keno playing time more fun.
